There were large scale commercial activity in
ancient days from Adilabad district to Rajahmundry through the Khammam
district. The River Godhavari had helped in this regard by flowing in full
length, allowing the river route commerce from there.
For instance,
kotilingala is an ancient town and initial capital of shatavahanas. It is on the
bank of river GodhavariThere are many villages are existing on the name of
kotilingal starting from Khammam district .Also , there is one kotilingala ghat(bank)
on Godhavari in Rajahmundry. There were many kotilingala temples established throughout the
shatavahana area.Temples in ancient period was worked for many purposes ,
including as bank, educational, health centre. Thus, it clearly proves that kotilingala people migrated to many areas for commercial activities and spread their culture in those places.
As per the Historians, Maghastenese, a famous
Greek traveler has made a mention of Kotilingala and its fort in his book
Indica.
Above information reveals three things.
Firstly, flourishing business relations and dominance of Adilabad and karimnagar
people with other area people ,including coastal area .secondly,The migrations
and establishing villages by these people in other areas for various reasons ,
including commerce.Thirdly, it proves the full flow of river Godhavari starting from kotilingala to Rajahmundry, allowing
the river navigation.
In addition to kotilingala in Khammam
district in mandal, there are villages
on the name of Rayapatnam (in madhira mandal, just about 5 k.m away from madhira
)and Jannaram.Originally, Rayapatnam is a famous village on the bank of river
Godhavari in Dharmapuri mandal, but it is very close to luxettipet in Adilabad
district.Similarly, Jannaram is in enkoor
mandal,on the way to kothagudem from khammam.Originally, Jannaram is a
mandal in adilabad district, near to the tributary of godhavari, by name
kaddam. If the people of jannaram too have the commercial relations with other
places through the river route, then tributeries of river godhavari would have
flowing in such a way that it allowed the navigation.Due to the commercial
relations they would have established villages in Khammam district. Another
interesting point about above two villages is that these are at crossroads,
connecting many routes and halting points to buses, vehicles, during the
journey in Adilabad and karimnagar districts.
One other village by name chennuru is also existing in kalluru
mandal in Khammam district.Originally, Chennuru is a famous and oldest town on the bank of river godhavari. Surrounding villages of
chennuru was famous for iron ore in olden days. This might have created commercial
relations with the distant places on the river route.People of chennuru are
believed intelligent in Adilabad district. In the present period, people of chennuru have established their colonies with chennuru as prefix in hyderabad and some other places.
Thus, there was trade flourishing from
Adilabad and karimnagar districts to coastal areas through the river route from
khammam and led to establishment of settlements of both district people in Khammam
and other districts.
It's absolutely true. Ref: One of velama doctor who settled in Uk( Enaganti Kamalker Rao used to tell with me that their relations like Bellamkonda families and some other velma land lords of adilabad migrated from Guntur in 18th century and also after boblli ruined many of Velama and Telaga veerulu migrated to this area ( Mentioned in Bobbili charitra) Ref: velma association group.
